Hydrotastic testing is the use of water to test a system for leaks. It uses what's called "Head Pressure" to force the water to escape from any part of a system that is not "sound". If the system is a "sound" system it will not lose any water. In the instance that water is lost then further isolation testing will need to be performed to locate exactly where the leak is.
